Dear Baby Z (that’s your name, for now)
This is a song that your mom and I will forever cherish. It’s also the song we picked for our first dance in Jordan. we had two wedding celebrations, you see. Our first was in Dubai, where we first met. Ten months later we had a wedding in Jordan (you’ll be half Jordanian, or maybe a third!? It’s all so confusing!). Well, it was by the dead sea and your mother and I really wanted to make it our own, and so…
Well, it all started in Belgium. Right after we got married I was sent to Brussels, and mom transferred there with me. It was a great, but strange 6 months. Towards the end, a day before your mom left in fact, we went to this concert. I may one day tell you the story of the man on the phone and the paramedics (your mom may not be too happy if I tell you this now), but basically when this song came on we knew we were in love!
And, as someone who grow up in the 90s, I’ve also tried to find out what the song was about (it’s meaning!). Apparently it was in reference to the singer being told that his seeking a girl was like “a puppy chasing cars”, he just has to do it. With your beautiful mother, that’s how I feel: I never thought I would end up with someone as brilliant and perfect as she is, but some how I did… She was the car I’ve chased all my life!
You’ll find out soon, I am a corny dad and I will embarrass you in-front of your friends, but I ask you to not hate me and accept me for who I am :)
I miss you and you’re not even born. Love you loads and can’t wait to see you in 3 months!
Love,
Dad
