Dear Child,
We found out about you a couple of weeks ago! It’s a scary thought, in just seven months my life will probably change forever! I’ll become a father.
It’s been a year of change for us actually. Last year, I lost my job and spent a few months out of work. It was a tough period that I may tell you about later, but for now, let’s stick to happy thoughts :) Anyway, it has all worked out for the better, suffice to say that I am now gainfully employed, and so is your mother actually!
Losing my job got me thinking. I need to make sure that, if I’m ever in need of a job, my educational qualifications are second to none, so I went back to school (getting an executive MBA!). Your mother and I decided to get a cat (she did, actually) and so we brought home Charlie the Cat. He’s a lot of fun, you’ll like him, I think! As if all that wasn’t enough, I decided to accept a new job a week before we found out about you!
It happened early in the morning. I was still in bed, while your mum was in the shower. I think I was probably reading news on my blackberry, when your mother came running out of the bathroom with a pregancny test and asked if it was positive! We weren’t sure, but it looked like it might have been!
Naturally, she dispatched me to the chemists where I bought a few :) The digital ones too! She drank a bottle of water, while I watched her, and then went back to the toilet. This time, there was no doubt! We were having a baby!
We were both overjoyed, and so we called your aunt over (we wanted a second opinion) and she confirmed what we now knew!
I spent the rest of the day in a daze, not knowing what to do. It’s more due to confusion than anything else! It’s not easy to digest such news, and the only reaction I knew was from the movies. I thought about breaking out some champagne, or running through the streets in my underwear, but both seemed like silly ideas so I settled for walking around with a stupid smile on my face!
A few weeks after we found out we went for a scan, and that’s when we saw you for the first time. We saw you earlier this week, actually. You look like a little peanut today, though I’m guessing you’ll change a lot over the next few weeks!
Anyway, I just wanted to get started. You’re mother is looking beautiful and she’s ready to go out. I’ll have to leave you for now.
Love,
Dad
